What Happens When Life Interrupts the Plan?

A successful leadership journey rarely follows a perfectly straight line.

Sometimes life changes the plan completely.

On Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 7 PM ET, RYP TV’s Born To Lead Docuseries welcomes Judy B. Armstrong for a LIVE conversation about resilience, reinvention, faith, and what it means to continue moving forward when life forces you to rewrite the story.

Judy is a former healthcare executive, real estate professional, and emerging speaker whose journey demonstrates that leadership isn’t only revealed through professional accomplishments.

Sometimes leadership is revealed by how we respond when everything changes.

When Your Career Takes an Unexpected Pause

At just 36 years old, Judy was diagnosed with lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease.

The diagnosis changed the trajectory of her life.

For nearly a decade, she was largely out of the workforce while raising two young children and navigating significant physical limitations.

But that chapter wasn’t the end of Judy’s leadership story.

It became part of it.

Judy eventually returned to the professional world and built an accomplished career in healthcare leadership, including more than a decade serving as CEO of a multispecialty ambulatory surgery center. Her journey has continued to include new chapters and career reinvention. (Judy B-Armstrong)

Judy B. Armstrong on Resilience, Reinvention & Leadership | Born To Lead

Resilience Doesn’t Mean Life Never Knocks You Down

We often talk about leadership resilience as though strong leaders simply push through everything.

Judy’s journey offers a more meaningful perspective.

Resilience can also mean adapting.

Rebuilding.

Changing direction.

Accepting that the path you originally imagined may no longer be available—and still believing there is meaningful work ahead.

That is a particularly important conversation for experienced women leaders.

After 20, 25 or 30 years, life may bring an unexpected health challenge, career transition, organizational change, family responsibility or professional pivot.

The question becomes:

Who are you when the title changes, the plan changes or life requires you to begin again?

Reinvention Is Leadership Too

Judy’s story reminds us that career reinvention for women isn’t necessarily about abandoning everything that came before.

Our experiences come with us.

Our leadership lessons come with us.

Our wisdom comes with us.

And sometimes our most difficult chapters give us something new to contribute.

Today, Judy speaks about resilience, leadership, reinvention and faith from lived experience—not simply theory. (Judy B-Armstrong)

That is exactly why stories like hers belong on Born To Lead.

Leadership isn’t simply about celebrating where someone eventually arrived.

It’s about understanding what happened along the way.
